Childhood Influence

Dear lord. I've modeled my life after Anne of Green Gables. I grew up with the books and the Megan Follows movies. The nine-year old just put the second of the films--Anne of Avonlea--on to watch, and there go my ideals dancing across the television screen in auburn hair. A life lived passionately, chasing down the things you're scared of and doing them anyway because of some goal greater than the fear, messing things up and turning them beautiful again, loving hard, embracing those that need help, striving to come back to and know yourself--the principles I live by, all right there in Anne. I guess I really must be from Canada.

I frickin' love it when Gilbert and Anne finally get together. Their union represents some tenderness, familiarity, and trust that shapes my ideal of a romantic relationship.

The end of the movie...

"It was a long lesson to learn, but you were right. I went looking for my ideals outside of myself, but the dreams dearest to my heart, are right here." She smiles at him.

He takes her hands in his. "It'll be three years before I finish medical school, and even then, there will be no crystal starbursts or marble halls." He says to her.

"I don't want starbursts or marble halls. I just want you." He smiles softly. They kiss, for the first time, and embrace, on the bridge over looking the lake.

  2. well, i don't think a kid could help but want to write Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie into their sexual fantasies.
