In the winter of 1922 American Eleanor Phelps went on an around the world tour via the S.S. Laconia, a ship that would later be drafted for battle in World War II. She was one of few people at the time to have taken such a journey and yet at the end of all she'd seen she closed her journal with the following question.

To see Eleanor Phelps photographs from her world travels check out the collection via the South Carolina Library online database.
